Are you looking for a way to spice up your lectures and add a little movement in? Why not try Rewind. It is a quick, easy, and minimal prep activity to get students up and moving. Bonus: Students will get a little extra practice with the vocabulary.
I believe I learned about this in a Facebook group but I can’t really remember. I know this is not 100% my idea so I want to acknowledge that.
What is Rewind?
Rewind is a very low prep activity that can be added to your lectures. You will use it during the lesson to break up information and get repetition of the vocabulary words. First, you will need to separate the classroom into sides “A” and “B.” You will go through a chunk of the information then stop and ask students a question. Provide students with answer options (This will be the vocab words). Students will move to the side of the room that bests answers the question.
To keep the questions in the target language, pose the question in video form and the answers using gifs.
Variations to rewind
You can use rewind in the same manner in a variety of ways. Here are some options to choose from:
- Either or questions
- True or false facts
- Opinions
- Comprehension questions (which is the correct answer)
- Instead of options A and B, use 4 corners
How will you use this activity in your lectures?
