Welcome to
Creative ASL Teaching

My mission is to provide you with actionable advice and inspiration to become a Creative ASL Teacher.

I can help you if…

1. You are feeling uninspired

2. Feel like you are a slave to your job

3. You are ready for a change

Sound like a dream?

As the founder of Creative ASL Teaching blog I have helped thousands of teachers take their teaching from static to inspirational. Teachers all over the globe are using resources, lesson plans, and ideas provided from this blog to create their own dynamic classrooms.

Changing your teaching practices doesn’t happen overnight. It takes time, support, and guidance. Being a great teacher doesn’t mean perfection. It means you try and fail and learn from those mistakes. It takes courage to do this. But you are brave. You can do this and I have your back.

So what’s my story?

I have taught in the public high school system for over 20 years. Around year 12 I found myself getting bored and my emotions fed into the classroom environment. I wasn’t happy and neither were my students. I needed a change in a big way.

I started researching second language acquisition, proficiency-based teaching, and activites to make learning more engaging.

I attended every workshop I could. I took what I learned and started presenting the information to teachers in my district. Then I started hosting learning pods for ASL teachers that worked locally near me.

The inspiration I found in working with other teachers inspired me. It is hard to be the sole ASL teacher and I hope that I can be here for you to offer you support and encouragement.

I still teach  ASL and Physical Education at Sage Creek High School in Carlsbad, CA full time. I also do workshop presenting in ASL curriculum, standards, and second language acquisition. I also works as a consultant to help other schools establish and maintain thriving ASL programs. I am a new teacher mentor, a Fellow in the California World Language Project, and the world language department chair at my school site. My passion is to support ASL teachers in their journey to become creative innovators and leaders in the field of World Language instruction.
