Pointless is a game I learned from listening to a podcast by Liam Printer. It is a quick game that takes very little time out of the daily schedule, it offers a lot of repetition and recall, and best of all it is zero prep.

What you will need to play:
- Whiteboards or paper in a protective sheet to erase
- Expo markers
- Erasers
- A current vocabualry list (this is for the teacher to use)
How to play:
The game is called pointless because the goal is to get the lowest score in this game. The person whose score is closest to zero wins.
Give each student a whiteboard. Have each student write down 5 vocabulary words from the unit you are currently working on. The teacher will also write down 5 vocabulary words.
The teacher will begin to sign the vocabulary words from the list one by one. If the student has the same word as the teacher does on their board, they get +2 points. If the student has the word on their board and another student has that word on their board, they get +5 points.
After the teacher has given the words from their list, students should count their points. The person with the lowest points is the winner of the game.
Alternatives to play:
I like to play this in smaller groups because it is a bit more manageable for me. I place students in small groups of 4 – 5 people and play the same as above.
I hope you enjoy this quick, zero prep game that can be played at any time in your current unit of study.
